Some 100,000 visitors a year from more than 110 countries demonstrate the unfailing international interest in Freud’s accomplishments and the place where he lived for five decades, formulating a radically new self-conception of the human being.
The places where Freud lived and worked are inscribed in worldwide collective memory: As the birthplace of psychoanalysis and as a memorial site recalling the loss of humanity and civilisation in Austria under Nazi rule.
The Sigmund Freud Foundation
Since 2003, the Sigmund Freud Museum is conducted by the Sigmund Freud Foundation, who has owned the house Berggasse 19 since 2006. The Sigmund Freud Foundation is a charitably organisation in austria, who is dedicated to researching, developing and spreading the life and work of Sigmund Freud and discussing historical, theoretical and psychoanalytical questions.
The establishment and conduct of a research center with library and archive is part of the foundation's purpose, as well as the preservation of the Sigmund Freud Museum.
The project Sigmund Freud Museum 2020 is therefore necessary to tulfil the purpose of the Sigmund Freud Foundation.
